Grad Party

June 29th, 2006

Dear fellow grade 12 classmates,
I hope you all had a great time last night. I know that most of you will be waking up sometime soon and I hope that the hangover isn’t too bad. If I told you that I was drinking when you asked last night, I’m sorry but that was a lie I said so that you wouldn’t shove alcohol in front of my face. Believe it or not, I was completely sober, although from my dancing in the middle of the field with Roy and my falling butt down in the mud, it may have looked different.
I hope that you remember some of last evening/really early this morning. I know I will. I will remember dancing, I will remember people I hardly knew or hardly ever spoke to coming up and hugging me. I’ll remember talking about our future lives, and about how glad we are that we were finally done high school. I’ll remember it if you forget.
So, I’m off to Halifax next year. Even though it’s only two and a half hours away, it is still goodbye for most of you because I’ll never take classes or party with most of you again. I hope you stay in contact, but no one ever knows. Time and space can separate even the strongest of bonds.
And, as always, there are pictures of this event on my Flickr page
Yours Truly,
Catherine Holloway

Graduation

June 28th, 2006

This is a new entry, with a new camera and a new notebook computer. I’ve graduated, and I won an award from a travel agency, an award from CPF, an award from band, and a plaque. Here’s one blurry picture:

PROM!

June 27th, 2006

Number of incidents caused by me wearing heels for the first time: 3. 1 - tripping over Erin’s door, 2 - sinking into the grass, 3 - stepping on a balloon and popping it.
Number of girls wearing the same dress: the most I saw was two, but there could have been more.
Temperature of Gymnasium: way too hot.
Number of people acting as if hammered: too many to count.
Number of couples making out on the dance floor: again, too many to count.
Number of people for which last night was the highlight of their life: unknown.
Number of pictures taken: 98.
Which is why I’ve only put one picture up. For more photos of last night, please visit my Flickr page.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 26th, 2006

I am extremely happy at this moment. There are three reasons:
1. It has stopped raining!
2. My relatives sent me a brand new digital camera! It’s got optical zoom and it has a very fast load time compared to my old digital camera.
3. I got in to DISP! I’ve been worrying about it for two months but I just learned that I got in!

Bug Bites on Prom Day

June 26th, 2006

It’s the day of the prom. I woke up about a half hour ago. It’s raining and I’m covered in bug bites because I accidently fell asleep while reading Inkheart in my back yard. I suppose I could blame it on the rain, but looking back on where I put my bookmark, the last words I read before I drifted off were “If someone doesn’t say something I’m going to fall asleep”. Interesting.
I missed the Ecumenical service ( I know that’s not right but I’m not going to look it up now) but I did go to the Hypnotist (or as Roy says, Hippo-tist) and that was quite amusing. Cara was hillarious.
And, tonight I’m going to prom with no makeup, no fancy hair, and lots of bug bites. Who cares, honestly. I’ve got a date, I’ve got my friends and I’ve got a great dress. I don’t need anymore.

Will you sign my yearbook?

June 24th, 2006

The grad barbecue was today at school… it was raining a lot so it was held in one half of the gym. Some prom decorations were already up. We got our yearbooks and spent most of the evening running around signing them. Some people were getting really sentimental about it.
I think The Marble Index’s Same Schools music video pretty much sums up how I’m feeling right now.
PS: I’ve seen this video on Videoflow on Much Music, but unfortunately it’s not on Youtube yet. If the link doesn’t work, just wait a bit. I’ll try to find it or bug them a bit.

Awards Banquet

June 23rd, 2006

These are pictures from the school awards banquet, which was on May 30th. I won third place in the country for the Begbie History Contest, the band student award, and a pin for Student Council.

The guys. Andrew won a whole lot of big awards for being smart, being a good athlete, and in general being Andrew. Mark won the award for the most dedicated band student. Pierre picked up his Begbie History Contest medal (he came first in the country, yay!). Unfortunately, there are no awards for Physics, or Computer Science, so Michael was there just for moral support.

Pierre has BRUE TEETH!

Our version of Mr. Farrell. We honestly were trying to be respectful, but it was just that the speaches honoring the wonderful coach we don’t know went on and on and on. There was an interesting moment where the speaker said that the coach “Has a way with the young girls” and didn’t mean it as a joke. Scary.

Many thanks to the lovely Stephanie Bertsch, who loaned me her camera when I forgot mine, who probably took one or two of these photos but which I forget, and who was kind enough to send them to me.

Summer Solstice

June 22nd, 2006

To celebrate the summer solstice last night, my parents, Roy, and I went with the Fresh Air Society (ps: mom designed and runs the website) to some beach near Heatherton. Despite the dramatic clouds in these photos, it was really nice weather. There were lots of mosquitos around our cars but none on the beach. I still ended up with bug bites.
