Depressing Thought

March 19th, 2006

My writer’s block just happens to come back on the day before the end of March Break, when I still have to work on two french projects, a Calculus assignment for tomorrow, Science Fair, Concours oratoire, and I haven’t practiced either instrument since the beginning of March Break. It feels like there’s so much I had left to read, write and watch. I don’t want to go back yet, not when I’ve got a new Jasper Fforde book and Full Metal Alchemist on youtube.
I can’t wait until I’m done with school. But then I’ll have university. And then I’ll have a job.
I can’t wait until retirement.

Science Kids and the Antigonish Nazis

March 13th, 2006

Today was astronomy day. I did not follow the plan I had set at all, but I wasn’t too upset. No one got hurt, nothing was damaged, and all the kids went back to their own families. HTML class going well too, although the projector isn’t working.
It’s funny how kids will just gab and gab to you when you’re alone with them and not get the idea that you really don’t understand what they’re talking about. Mom thinks it’s because humans instinctively talk so that they can get practice.
I had a dream last night that I was trying to save some preschool kids from the Antigonish Nazis. Antigonish Nazis? Not exactly. In my dream everyone living on the east and south side of every street in town had banded together, taken power and started to harass and kill everyone on the other side of the street. In my dream I led the kids to Piper’s Glen where we hid out for a few months eating gross canned tomato sauce we found in the bushes. (don’t ask me how I come up with these things) And then I woke up before it ended.
It was one of those dreams that is on the verge of being a nightmare, but lucidly you decide not to change it because it’s pretty interesting. Who knows? Maybe when I go to sleep tonight I’ll get part two of the dream, where we escape from the forest after Antigonish is liberated by the allies. Who would come and save Antigonish? Guysborough? Pictou? Port Hawkesbury? Antigonish being liberated by Port Hawkesbury. Now that’s comedy.
PS here’s an image of the words I use the most often on my blog:

You know, there’s something a bit too ironic about the fact that I’m being handed my medal with the praying virgin Mary in the background when the topic of my speech was about science and skepticism.
P.S.: for those who might get a bloated image of my fame in Antigonish, it is really easy to get your picture in the casket. They’ll print anything.

Here’s the March Issue of the Gillis Gazette. If you read it now you’ll be only 12 or so hours ahead of the rest of the school.

You know you’re famous when…

March 6th, 2006

You get on the cover of the St FX newsletter and you still don’t fully understand why.

Pierre was only a member of the Science Centre for about an hour when the picture was taken and he’s already on their promotional material. I suppose it’s retribution that they misspelled his name, though slightly ironic considering his father is the president of the university.
In case you were wondering, I took home third place at the Lion’s Club Speakout. Next to take out is le Concours D’art Oratoire sometime in the next couple of weeks. And my science and web design camps (pages 12 and 13) over march break. And regional science fair. And the March Gillis Gazette, which will hopefully be out on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.
Still no word from universities.
