Spongeback Squaretains

February 26th, 2006

This is totally appropriate considering that some Christian groups have claimed that Spongebob was gay.

Valentine’s Day Story

February 16th, 2006

I won a story writing contest for The Daily News where you had to end a story about an eighth grader searching for a date for the dance in 250 words. It was published
Last week the Fox News Channel came to Nova Scotia on Eastlink Digital Cable. Yay! Now anytime I want I can listen to crazy right wing pundits talk rant about how much they love liberals, Canada, and other networks, it will always be there, right between CourtTV and IChan (a canadian political channel).
I’m going to speak about Scepticism for the Lion’s Club Speakout on Tuesday, and then on Wednesday I’m going to have a repeat of my Cosmology project for the science centre.

If Cirque ran the Olympics

February 11th, 2006

Those who were watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics yesterday may have noticed this bizarre act:

Okay, I realize that the dancing guy to the left is supposed to be symbolic of the human circulatory system, but why does he have a mohawk? And wtf do the giant female Siamese twins with a lot of feet represent?
It just seems like a big waste of money for a knock-off of Cirque du Soleil.

February 2006 Gillis Gazette

February 10th, 2006

February 2006
Do I take full responsibility for the stupid idea that was putting out an issue just for winter carnival? Yes. Was it my idea to have the confusing banner going diagonally down the page? Yes. Did this issue require the least amount of work? You bet.
A number of people suggested that because the last issue started being nicknamed the “Jebuary” issue because of a joke started in a Student Council meeting, that I call this month’s issue the “Farch” issue. Please, people. I have enough censorship problems as it is. I don’t want a new ban on words that sound bad.

You’ve probably already seen this since it’s been all over the internet as of late, but I just can’t help it. I’m a Back to the Future fan.

17

February 4th, 2006

Yesterday I turned seventeen. So now I can legally read Seventeen Magazine. Oh no, they put Ashlee Simpson on their cover again. Never mind.
I had to take my Etudes Globale Exam on my birthday. That sucked. At least it wasn’t as long as Pre-Cal or Chimie.
I had to play a concert with the stage band and afterwards I had a small party at my house.

White Out

February 1st, 2006

whiteout2.jpg

The big storm that had loomed over Boston last week hit Nova Scotia last night, effectively shutting down the province. This morning when my alarm clock woke me up I was a few seconds in to a very, very, long list of cancellations. Everything is closed: all school boards, all pre-schools, all community activities, provincial government offices, universities, everything. Even though the fact that school is cancelled today only means I’ll have to take my Chemistry exam on Friday (which is my birthday btw), it’s still so much better than waking up to the sound of “Well, John’s snow blower shop is out of luck again today…”
Exams are going pretty well, I’d have to say. So far I’ve taken English 12 Provincial and Pre-Cal. English was a waste of time. We had to write an essay on how to deal with the environmental effects of using plastic bags. One of the questions on a poem called Red Leaves was “Authors sometimes use other words to describe images. What do the “little fires” in line 1 signify?”. Pre-Cal was okay too, except that I was a bit shaken up because of an unexpected discovery on the way to school.
Our next-door neighbours (the hillbillies, not the students) have a bathroom window that lines up with the window to our computer room. Sometimes our neighbours use the shower WITHOUT SHUTTING THE CURTAINS. I find this kind of gross, but luckily you can only see in at certain angles of the computer room. The real problem, however, is not that we can see them but that they can see us.
The morning of my Pre-Cal exam, as I was walking through my backyard to get to school, I found a bag of cheap Valentine
