Dumb Lyrics

November 27th, 2004

Today I present to you your double dose of teenage pop culture.
I cannot stand Lindsay Lohan or Hillary Duff, just to let you know. These are two singers who started out as actors working for Disney who somehow got great electronic singing voices and became popstars. Their songs, (which aren’t written by them) are very dumb and superficial. The lyrics are very simple, but when you combine them with an internet translate tool, they can be very entertaining. For example, here is the refrain from Lindsay Lohan’s latest song, Rumours:
I’m tired of rumors starting
I’m sick of being followed
I’m tired of people lying
Saying what they want about me
Why can’t they back up off me
Why can’t they let me live
I’m gonna do it my way
Take this for just what it is
Here we are back up in the club
People taking pictures
Don’t you think they get enough
I just wanna be all over the floor
And throw my hands up in the air to a beat like (What?)
I’ve gotta say respectfully
I would like it if you take the cameras off of me
‘Cause I just want a little room to breathe
Can you please respect my privacy
… and here are the lyrics, translated to Chinese and back to English. (with minor editing)
I’m weary rumor starts
I’m is sick and disabled
is I’m which follows;
What does the weary person lie says them
must about my why can’t
Why do they support my can’t
they let me live
I’m makes its my way
takes this why it is
Here we is the candidate
Pats Don’t in the club people
Which the photograph you thinks;
What do they obtain enough
Me want to be everywhere
This floor and throw my hand
To strike likely in the air?
I’ve obtains respectfully
Thinks I want if you adopt the photographic camera
I take one room breath to be able
you to invite to respect me secret ‘Cause

Hawking is my homeboy

November 27th, 2004

The latest fashion trend at my high school are novelty print t-shirts bought over the internet. One design, however, that is “Cooler” than all others, is the Jesus is my homeboy tshirt. In response to this, I have created my own design:

Band Trip

November 11th, 2004

It has been decided. We are going to go to Orlando for five nights and six days. We’re going to play several times, possibly in Walt Disney World itself, and in a festival.
I’m really excited about it. In ninth grade, we went to Toronto as a band trip, and that was really fun. This time, it’s international, which means a lot of fundraising and practice before May, when we’re set to go. It means months of organizing fundrasers, selling raffle tickets for dumb prizes to complete strangers, and baking muffins.
Of course, it’s the parents who’ll be paying for it, and it’s the parents who voted for the most expensive option.

Another Week…

November 7th, 2004

Hello random people on the internet, welcome to another addition of “Catherine Holloway complains about being too busy”.
Elections: well, the results were pretty disappointing, but I can still sorta take refuge in Canada, and my life probably won’t change that much because Bush is still there. I just liked Kerry a lot. In any case, I’ll be able to vote in the next US election, not that it will make much difference now. It was pretty funny listening to my classmates talk about politics and demonstrating their ignorance about it. My dad would’ve steamed if he heard the things they were saying. Most teenagers in my high school see Kerry as being Right-wing and Nader as being perfectly normal.
Band: currently we’re preparing for Rememberance day ceremonies. He wants the Stage band to play one of them instead of the Concert band, at least on one of the ceremonies. I guess he wants to shake things up: those veterans need something to jive to as they lay their reefs, so we’re going to play “Stormy Weather” and other war-time hits.
Halloween: Pierre and I went out trick-or-treating. I went as the lyrics to a Beatles song: “Here comes the sun King”. Afterwards, Meaghan came over and read Russian Tarot cards.
Philosophical thought du semaine: I’ve been thinking of how people want to believe in an afterlife because they want to feel that there’s something good in the end, a place where they’ll be eternally happy. If so, I think that Heaven and Hell must be very boring places. Eventually you’d get tired of being happy in heaven, and numb to the pain of Hell. What would be the point?
