The Attack!

June 29th, 2006

(this is a bit of an in joke. I’m not sure I could explain why this is funny for those who weren’t involved.)

Translation?

June 21st, 2006

I made Roy watch that last video. He says that the guy with the missing teeth is a famous Japanese comedian, and that he can tell that the video is very old because the guy looks very young. He says they’re singing about what the guy likes to do on every day of the week, and that the chorus lists members of the family. He has no idea why their costumes keep changing. According to him, the Japanese sense of humour is very hard to explain.

Just Smile Your Head and Nod

June 20th, 2006

If you’re all bummed out because of exams, watch this little video, found via TV in Japan. No idea what they’re singing, but it looks like they’re having fun.

PS: I think this video is appropriate for all, except dentists.

Cats in a Tree

May 23rd, 2006

cats.jpg
Cat 1: Please, please let me down. This branch is dead and the ground is at least seven feet down. What if that human in the giant glass box catches us?
Cat 2: Hey, you went out on that limb. Don’t blame me, blame your curiosity. I’m not backing up until you tell me where you hid all those half eaten tins of baked beans. I know you’ve got them.
In more serious news, I got accepted to every university I applied to and they’re all giving me some entrance scholarship of some sort. I’m still going to Dal, but I’m going to Ottawa on Friday.

Science Kids and the Antigonish Nazis

March 13th, 2006

Today was astronomy day. I did not follow the plan I had set at all, but I wasn’t too upset. No one got hurt, nothing was damaged, and all the kids went back to their own families. HTML class going well too, although the projector isn’t working.
It’s funny how kids will just gab and gab to you when you’re alone with them and not get the idea that you really don’t understand what they’re talking about. Mom thinks it’s because humans instinctively talk so that they can get practice.
I had a dream last night that I was trying to save some preschool kids from the Antigonish Nazis. Antigonish Nazis? Not exactly. In my dream everyone living on the east and south side of every street in town had banded together, taken power and started to harass and kill everyone on the other side of the street. In my dream I led the kids to Piper’s Glen where we hid out for a few months eating gross canned tomato sauce we found in the bushes. (don’t ask me how I come up with these things) And then I woke up before it ended.
It was one of those dreams that is on the verge of being a nightmare, but lucidly you decide not to change it because it’s pretty interesting. Who knows? Maybe when I go to sleep tonight I’ll get part two of the dream, where we escape from the forest after Antigonish is liberated by the allies. Who would come and save Antigonish? Guysborough? Pictou? Port Hawkesbury? Antigonish being liberated by Port Hawkesbury. Now that’s comedy.
PS here’s an image of the words I use the most often on my blog:

This is totally appropriate considering that some Christian groups have claimed that Spongebob was gay.

If Cirque ran the Olympics

February 11th, 2006

Those who were watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics yesterday may have noticed this bizarre act:
torino2.jpg
Okay, I realize that the dancing guy to the left is supposed to be symbolic of the human circulatory system, but why does he have a mohawk? And wtf do the giant female Siamese twins with a lot of feet represent?
It just seems like a big waste of money for a knock-off of Cirque du Soleil.

Tricky Experiment

August 21st, 2005

In the July 30th issue of New Scientist, there was a link to an interesting experiment. The video on this link is of a group of people in black and white t-shirts passing basketballs to each other. To participate, click on this link and count the number of times the basketball is passed. Then, and only after you have watched the video, go to the answer.
