On my own

February 25th, 2005

My parents have fled the winter snows to go to Hawaii for a political science conferance for a week, leaving me on my own. Well, I’m not exactly on my own. I go across the street every night to sleep with my parent’s friends and colleagues, who are from Romania and have a two year old son named Luc and a big hairy dog who looks like a cross between a bear and a lion. I spent my evening yesterday watching Voyager and trying to answer homework questions about confederation treaties in Canada’s ealy history while Luc chased the lionbeardog around the house on a tricycle.

Band Trip

November 11th, 2004

It has been decided. We are going to go to Orlando for five nights and six days. We’re going to play several times, possibly in Walt Disney World itself, and in a festival.
I’m really excited about it. In ninth grade, we went to Toronto as a band trip, and that was really fun. This time, it’s international, which means a lot of fundraising and practice before May, when we’re set to go. It means months of organizing fundrasers, selling raffle tickets for dumb prizes to complete strangers, and baking muffins.
Of course, it’s the parents who’ll be paying for it, and it’s the parents who voted for the most expensive option.

Camping Pictou

August 30th, 2004

Last weekend we went camping in Pictou Cariboo Provincial Park. I swam in the ocean, hiked, biked, played backgamon against my father (and lost), sketched wildflowers, got ice cream, and stargazed. My bicycle tires were destroyed being carried on the back of our subaru on the transcanada (a little road that connects Nova Scotia to British Columbia with more pot holes than the moon has craters). Add that to the chrome that flies of my tires in little sparkles everytime I use my breaks, the seat that’s getting worn out, the rust that’s appearing all over, and the front gear that I’ve never been able to change. I’ve had my bike for at least three years, and I bought it for five dollars at the local flee market, and I’ve wanted a new bike since then. Unfortunatly, my current bike still works, so I doubt my parents will want to buy me a new one. I guess I should try to wear it out more, but my school is just within my walking distance, and the snow will fall in November.
School starts Thursday. *sigh* Better get riding.

The Internet Cloud

August 26th, 2004

While in the Halifax Airport, on our way home from Ohio, Mom turned on her new Clie and found that she was sitting in an internet cloud (not good with technical computer terms). I was going to try to make an entry, but I’m not that good at Graffiti (the squiggles you use to make letters on PDAs) and the bus was about to leave. But still, we thought the Internet Cloud was pretty cool.
So, I’m home. School starts soon, but I think I have another week. I’d rather not know for sure until I have to. Ugh… school. That place. I still have a number of Challenges to finish to get my Canada Cord in Pathfinders, and a ‘Brand New’ saxophone to practice, but if I have time I’ll try to do something about the look of this blog.
