Mayfest was several weeks ago, but I have recently found myself with a dreadful case of internet lethargy. So here's the story of Mayfest:
Mayfest is the annual fundraiser for the local Hospital. The St. FX Student Union building is taken over and filled with magic shows, flea markets, fairground games, and a 'teddy bear clinic' where the doctors of the town will diagnose your stuffed animal. I volunteered in Scienceworld. Profs and students from the various science departments at X set up demonstrations in the Golden X pub (a lovely atmosphere for children - smell of alcohol permiates the place and almost every surface is sticky). Since I'm not a St. FX student and I put my name in pretty late, I was assigned to the earth science department, whose demonstrations included: find the volcanic rock! talk to a prof about climate change! look at the fossil under a rock microscope, and the one I was working with: put clay in a mold and make something that looks like a trilobite yet has nothing at all to do with the fossilization process! As you can tell by my description, I didn't much care for what I was doing. But, saying that I ran a booth at Scienceworld sounds a lot more impressive than helped kids stuff clay into a mold.
My parents were also at Mayfest, playing with their jazz band. Here are some pictures:

Because it's one of the worst websites ever created, possibly even worse than hotmail. Facebook is the way of the future. So goodbye to:
- entering a verification code every time I want to login because I had the wrong password stored with firefox
- extremely long waits for pages to load
- music playing automatically when you load a page
- the gaudy, hideous images that get passed around like spam at holidays and when you ad someone as a friend
- having random people spamming my profile and having to block them each individually
- getting e-mail notifications every time someone spams my profile
- creepy messages from forty year old men
- no one is on myspace except preteens, cougars, basement dwellers, and indie bands
I think my yahoo 360 profile is soon to follow. It's not quite as bad, but I suspect that it's the reason for the requests for cybersex and english practice I get on my Yahoo messenger.
I know I could set my profiles to private, but then no one I actually know can find me. What would be the point?
